Caring for itchy skin

Skin itching can have multiple causes, including eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. For many, itchy skin is caused simply when skin is overly dry – most often in the winter months. Dry skin = itchy skin Freezing temperatures combined with low humidity (both common in the winter) can leave your skin dry and itchy. Add to that the warm, dry air from the furnaces at home and at work, and you have the prime conditions for dry, itchy skin. Not only can the winter affect normal skin, but the drier, colder air can also exacerbate the symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea – and even dandruff. Soothing itchy skin Preventing and soothing dry, itchy skin can be easier for some people than others. If you find your skin dry simply due to the colder, drier winter air, adding a richer moisturizer and a gentler cleanser to your skin care routine may be enough to give you some relief. If, however, you are suffering from extreme redness or flaky skin – or even a flare-up of a dermatologic condition such as eczema – you may need more than humidity and a good moisturizer. It’s important to protect the skin, so you should be avoiding exposure to the elements: wear gloves and a scarf when you’re outside, and protect any exposed skin with a moisturizer. Bel Mondo’s Calming Facial Sheet Masks can offer relief from dry, itchy skin. With soothing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial agents, our Calming Masks can help comfort sensitive skin and reduce irritation. See a dermatologist if redness and/or itching continues to worsen, as itchy skin can be the sign of a more serious skin condition, and prescription medication may be necessary.
